The Contemporary Domain project takes inspiration from the ever-changing urban landscape, reflecting the ongoing evolution of contemporary design. By embracing a narrative that interprets the sensibility within urban estrangement, this design transcends cultural boundaries and creates a space that is both timeless and captivating.
One of the standout features of the Contemporary Domain is the use of a reflective wall in the dining area. The round mirror shape, complemented by the Sycamore pattern, enhances the overall visual experience. The dark-colored mirror subtly illuminates the interior, creating a sense of spaciousness and flow. The mirror reflection also enhances the natural lighting, resulting in a warm and inviting dining atmosphere.
Privacy is a key consideration in the entrance area, where a processional turn with lighting and modern abstract landscape paintings with storage function provides a sense of seclusion. An elegant Chinese-style sliding door seamlessly incorporates classic aesthetics while showcasing the client's refined taste. The neutral-tone fabric sofa adds an aura of elegance to the space.
The Contemporary Domain project successfully combines Art Deco Modern Styling with Classic Chinese Spatiality. The design creates a procession that meanders through the interior, from the living room to the study, with glass sliding doors demarcating different domains and extending the vista. The vertical timber grille adds a touch of Oriental nobility, while a light grey color tone brings avant-garde flair to the interior.
Overcoming the challenge of single-side natural lighting, the design team ensured ample indirect natural lighting to create a penetrating and flowing space without any obstructions. All storage is recessed into the walls, maintaining a sense of transparency and privacy while preserving functionality. The undulating glass pattern on the ceiling adds layers to the interior, enhancing its grandeur.
The Contemporary Domain project embodies the fusion of minimalist Western modernist aesthetics with the warmth of Eastern classic styling. By layering materials and spatial narratives, this design creates a true cultural aura of vitality in a modern residence. It serves as a contemporary meditation on the reflection of traditional culture.
The Contemporary Domain project, completed in December 2018 in Taoyuan City, Taiwan, has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.
With its harmonious blend of urban styling and classicism, the Contemporary Domain by Jian Neng Chen stands as a testament to the power of design to create spaces that are both visually captivating and functionally exceptional.
